மு.க. அழகிரி இன்று பத்திரிக்கையாளர்களிடம் கூறியதாவது நான் மதுரையில் 1980 ம் ஆண்டு காலடி எடுத்து வைத்தேன் அப்போது எனக்கு அறிமுகமாகிய நண்பர்கள் எல்லாம் இங்கே இருக்கிறீர்கள் அப்போது சாதாரண தொண்டர்களாக இருந்தவர்களை எல்லாம் கட்சிப் பதவியில் அலங்கரிக்க செய்தேன் அந்த வகையில் சாதரண தொண்டனாக அறிமுகமாகிய கோபிநாதனை படிப்படியாக உயர்த்தி மண்டலத் தலைவர் பதவியில் அமர்த்தினேன்.

அவரது மனைவியை மேயர் ஆக்கினேன் அவரை போன்று எனக்கு நிறைய தம்பிமார்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். இப்போது பல இன்னல்கள் சோதனைகளை கடந்து இங்கே கூடியிருக்கிறோம். 2001ம் ஆண்டு முதலில் கட்சியில் இருந்து நீக்கப்பட்டேன். அடுத்து 2013ல் மீண்டும் சோதனை வந்து கட்சியில் இருந்து நீக்கப்பட்டேன் கட்சியில் இது போன்று பல சோதனைகளை தாங்கி கொண்டேன். ஆனால் ஒரு பழிச்சொல்லை என்னால் தாங்க முடியவில்லை. அந்த பழிச்சொல்லால் என் இதயம் கனக்கிறது.

இங்கே பேசிய தம்பிமார்கள் அழகிரி அடுத்த முதல்வராவார் அடுத்த பிரதமராவார் என்றெல்லாம் பேசினார்கள் நான் எப்போதுமே பதவிக்கு ஆசைப்படவில்லை எனக்கு வரும் பதவியை இன்னொரு தம்பிமார்களுக்கு கொடுத்து அழகு பார்ப்பவன் நான். தென் மாவாட்ட அமைப்புச் செயலாளர் பதவியை எனக்கு கொடுத்த கலைஞர். நான் கேட்காமலேயே என்னை எம்.பி ஆக்கினார். மத்திய அமைச்சராக்கினார்.

அந்த பதவி மூலம் நிறைய சாதனைகளைச் செய்துள்ளேன். அந்த பதவிகளை எல்லாம் விட எண்ணற்ற தம்பிமார்களின் இதயத்தில் இருக்கவே விரும்புகிறேன். நான் வியூகம் வகித்திருக்கிறேன் அடுத்த 2 , 3 மாதத்தில் வெளியிடுவேன் என்றெல்லாம் பேசிய தம்பிமார்கள் என்ன வியூகம் வைத்திருக்கிறேன் எனறு அறிய ஆவலாய் கேட்டார்கள் அவர்களுக்கு நான் சொல்லிக்கொள்ள விரும்புவது மூன்று மாதம் காத்திருங்கள் என்பதுதான் என்று கூறினார்.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president S. Ramadoss categorically ruled out the possibility of giving up the constituencies for which his party has named candidates. "We have already started campaigning work for the elections. The constituencies have been identified and the names of the candidates have been announced. These constituencies are not negotiable. Why should we give it up?" he asked. The PMK and BJP are in talks for a seat sharing alliance in Tamil Nadu. The BJP front has Vaiko's MDMK, and hopes to rope in Vijayakant's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

Besides, he also warded off questions regarding whether they have finalised their alliance with BJP or they would be a part of the alliance that included DMDK for the Lok Sabha polls.

Briefing reporters on Monday he said that they will not ally with any Dravidian parties at any point of time as they wanted to bring about a change in the Tamil Nadu politics. Describing the two Dravidian parties as 'evil forces' that had been continuously ruining the State for the past 47 years, he said he wanted to put an end to their dominance in the political arena of Tamil Nadu.

While announcing the formation of the Social Democratic Alliance on October 21, 2013, Dr. Ramadoss announced names of candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies. They are former Union Ministers R. Velu from Arakkonam and A.K. Moorthy from Arani, Party president G.K. Mani from Krishnagiri, youth wing secretary R. Arul (Salem), Ediroli Manian (Tiruvannamalai), Vallar Govindasamy (Cuddalore) and Gopi alias Gopalakrishnan (Chidambaram), Vadivel Ravanan (Villupuram), Aghoram (Mayiladuthurai) and former MLA R.K.R. Anantharaman (Puducherry).

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the city on Saturday seems to have done some good. The increased police presence on city roads ahead of the high-profile visit has brought down the crime rate. No case of robbery or chain snatching has been reported since Thursday.

The Gujarat chief minister is scheduled to address a public meeting at Vandalur, about 25km from here, on Saturday, but police teams have been on patrol duty round-the-clock since Wednesday after an 'alert' from Intelligence Bureau officials of a possible attack on Modi during his visit to the city. The heightened security, police sources said, has resulted in regular criminals keeping off the streets probably due to the fear of being nabbed.

All precautions have been taken with regard to providing security for Modi. More than 5,000 police personnel have been deployed at various places across the city as well as at the venue of the meeting.

A five-tier security ring has been thrown around the venue. Security has been tightened along the route from Vandalur to a hotel in Guindy where Modi is expected to stay during his visit. The hotel, too, has been fortified. There is a possibility that Modi will meet business people at a formal meeting at the hotel and there are rumours that he may also hold discussions with leaders of some political parties about alliances for the coming parliamentary elections.

Before the enhanced security arrangements, the crime rate was high, said police officers adding that almost eight cases of chain snatching were reported in the city in a single day at the end of January. Of these, at least half-a-dozen cases were reported in Anna Nagar police district alone. Police then strengthened the security around Anna Nagar. Every day, an average of 20 crimes are reported from the city and its suburbs, police said.

Film actor and director T. Rajendher, who quit the DMK over difference of opinion with the party leadership, rejoined the party on Friday, and got Assured a MP Ticket from DMK.

"He accepted my invitation to strengthen the propaganda machinery of the DMK. I hope partymen will also welcome his return," Mr Karunanidhi said in a statement after Mr. Rajendher called on him at his Gopalapuram residence.

Mr. Rajendher, who later changed his name as Vijaya T. Rajendher, always had a roller-coaster relationship with the DMK.

At one point of time he was the propaganda secretary of the party.

After a spell with the DMK, he left it to launch the Thayaga Marumalarchi Kazhagam. He returned to the DMK before the run-up to the 1996 Assembly polls and was elected from Park Town constituency. He fell out with the DMK leadership again and launched Lakshiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2004. He supported the AIADMK in the 2006 Assembly elections. When the DMK came to power in 2006, he was made vice-chairman, Small Savings Scheme.

He, subsequently, quit the post.

"I met Mr. Karunanidhi on an invitation. He asked me to be part of the DMK and I could not reject his offer," said a visibly moved Mr. Rajendher.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandra Babu Naidu today called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence in Chennai. Naidu who went to her residence around 12.30 pm was closeted with her for over 45 minutes. Naidu was accompanied by two of his colleagues. Jayalalithaa was assisted by her Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam. He briefed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister about the present crisis in the state. Later talking to media Naidu said Jayalalithaa listened to him patiently. "Jayalalithaa said she was for both the sides. It is up to leaders to decide," Naidu said. He launched a scathing attack on the Congress and said the party is playing and they don't have values. He said the President should call people of both regions and hold talks with them. He further added that there is a process to bifurcate any state and the Congress is not following that. "There should be a state reorganasing committee before bifurcating any state. Even Tami Nadu was bifurcated by that. But now the Congress party is throwing all these norms in to the winds. They are playing politics during the elections. This is a dangerous trend and they can bifurcate any state without following any procedures" he said. But as for his party's stand was concerned Naidu was careful. "TDP wants to serve Telugu people, either in Seemandhra or in Telengana" was his careful reply to an another question. Naidu also said he wants to talk about it after the elections. Later Chandrababu Naidu headed towards the DMK headquarters to meet the DMK president M.Karunanidhi. It may be recalled that the YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Karunanidhi two months back and impressed upon them not to support the Telengana bill in the Parliament. So far Jayalalithaa was non committal on this issue. But Jayalalithaa opposed Telengana when she was in opposition in the state during the 2006-2011 period. There is no official word from Jayalalithaa in the last couple of months though the Telengana issue had become a volatile one.

முதல் -- அமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா பிரதமர் ஆவது உறுதி. நரேந்திர மோடி பிரதமராக ஆதரவு கிடைக்காது. மத்தியில் எந்த கட்சியாலும் தனியாக ஆட்சி அமைக்க முடியாத நிலை உருவாகும்போது தமிழக முதல்--அமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா பிரதமராவார். அதனால்தான் நாற்பதும் நமதே என உறுதியாக நம்புகிறோம். ஆம்ஆத்மி கட்சி தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஒரு தொகுதியில் கூட ஜெயிக்க முடியாது.

Tamilaruvi Manian began his political career as a congressman in 1966. After the split happened in the Indian National Congress party, he joined the Indian National Congress (Organisation). For some years, he served in political parties like Janata Party, Janata Dal, and Lok Shakti. He then joined the Tamil Maanila Congress(TMC). After the merger of TMC with Congress, he continued his career in Congress. He served in politics over 40 years. He resigned from the post of General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on 23 February 2009 because of the party's position on the Eelam Tamil issue. He founded the Gandhiya Arasiyal Iyakkam on 2 October 2009 which later renamed as Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam.

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Sunday made it clear that his cadre wanted to go it alone in the Lok Sabha polls.

When he asked the huge gathering a couple of times, "Do you want an alliance or not", their answer was a resounding "no". Acknowledging their response, Mr. Vijaykant, however, said his cadre would abide by any decision of the party on the issue.

He went on to recall his decision to join the AIADMK alliance in the 2011 Assembly election after consulting the partymen at a conference in Salem. "We were humiliated and treated badly for taking the decision," he said.

Speaking at the party's State conference at Ulundurpet near here, Mr. Vijayakant dedicated a considerable part of his speech to attack the ruling AIADMK and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. He said his objective was to capture power in Tamil Nadu in the 2016 Assembly elections. The police had become totally subservient to the ruling party and were serving its whims, he added.

The DMDK passed several resolutions at the conference. One of them declared its slogan: "We will unite and fight corruption".

It said parties in power at the Centre and States ought to mend their ways to cleanse the political system of their corruption or face the threat of getting unseated.

The conference raised issues pertaining to Mullaperiyar, the Palar, the Cauvery and the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen and related problems. The ruling dispensation, it said, was not taking any action.

Several thousands of crores were allocated for the cyclone Thane-hit Villupuram and Cuddalore districts, but aid had not reached the affected people, a resolution said.

Farmers in delta districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur had not got compensation for their crops that withered owing to want of water.

Over one lakh head of cattle perished in the outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease but farmers were not given suitable compensation. It has urged the government to take immediate action to mitigate their sufferings.

Focussing on local issues, the conference said that ever since the DMDK announced the conference, the Villupuram district was brought under prohibitory orders, thus putting hurdles to the arrangements.

The local authorities removed flexi-boards, banners and arches put up in connection with the conference.

In his first reaction on the Alagiri suspension issue, DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said that he was suspended because he used "harsh words" against Stalin.

"Alagiri came to my house on January 24 and complained regarding Stalin and troubled me and used harsh words. Alagiri told me Stalin will die in three months. No father can tolerate such words against his son," Karunanidhi said, explaining.

"I do not know why Alagiri has nurtured such hatred against Stalin for many years. Alagiri should have met me in person and spoken about any issues he had about his suspension. But he has been talking to the media. He is still under temporary suspension, party will take a call on expulsion," the DMK chief added.

Alagiri was suspended from the DMK on Friday, January 24.

In a statement, the DMK said that action against Alagiri had been taken for going against the party stand in the public domain.
