Ilaiyaraaja & Director Mahendran join hands again after a longtime

The irresistible combination of master film-maker Mahendran and Maestro Ilaiyaraaja is back on screen: after more than two decades, Mahendran and Ilaiyaraaja are to work together for a new untitled film.

Mahendran has always gone with Maestro's music in all his films except Saasanam which released eight years back. The duo's films have been Tamil cinema's ever-green classics: Mullum Malarum, Johnny, Uthiripookkal, Pootatha Poottukkal, Nenjathai Killathay, etc. The list is brief but worth its weight in gold.

Mahendran's depiction of superstar Rajinikanth, who was an upcoming star at that time, in films such as Mullum Malarum and Jhonny is still being spoken about by Rajini's fans who consider these two as among the top ten films of Rajini. It would be an understatement to say that Ilaiyaraaja's music propped up Mahendran's films; his music offered soul to his films.

After 8 years, Mahendran is to start directing films again and has signed up Ilaiyaraaja to score the music of the film. When he visited the Prasad Labs recently, Mahendran spoke to Ilaiyaraaja and managed to get his consent to score the music of his upcoming directorial venture which remains untitled as yet.

"The film is likely to go to the floors soon with a song getting recorded first; it's a script based on a short story by Pudhumaipithan. The script has as its backdrop a small town and is about the problems faced by the middle-class in society," Mahendran says. P. Sanjay, son of popular cinematographer P. Loknath, debuts as cinematographer with this film. The cast of the film is yet to be decided.

Damaal Dumeel is a 2014 Tamil black comedy-thriller film directed by Shree and produced by C J Jayakumar. The film features Vaibhav and Remya Nambeesan in the leading roles, while Sayaji Shinde plays another pivotal role. The film is set for release on March, 2014.

The film was launched in a low scale function on August 23, 2013 at the AVM Studios, Chennai with veteran director K. Balachander being the guest of honour. Shree, the debutant director, began working on the script after apprenticing under Shankar during the production of Enthiran, and noted that the film would star Vaibhav and Remya Nambeesan. He revealed that it would be a dark comedy thriller film, with Vaibhav portraying a software engineer. The director reported in November 2013 that 85 percent of the film was complete, with only songs left to be shot. Thaman recorded a song with the lead actress Remya Nambeesan for the soundtrack. Deepika Kamaiah did a special appearance in a club number along with Vaibhav and Remya and she shot for the song at a popular club in Bangalore.

AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced the names of party candidates for the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the lone constituency in Puducherry.

The party will withdraw a few candidates from constituencies where the alliance partners are expected to contest. "Talks are on with Left parties, the CPI and the CPM. After entering into an agreement with them, our candidates will be withdrawn in those areas," Jayalalithaa said.

The AIADMK leader announced that her whirlwind Lok Sabha election campaign would begin in Kancheepuram on March 3. She would cover at least 15 districts during the month-long campaign.

Soon, affordable movie tickets for the entire family could ease the load on your budget. Chennai Corporation, on Wednesday, announced the establishment of Amma Cinema Theatres on vacant land in various parts of the city.

Announcing 132 welfare and development schemes in the Corporation Budget 2014-2015, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said the tickets would be affordable for the poor and the middle class.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has directed officials to devise a strategy to screen new blockbuster feature films in the proposed facilities to be constructed by the civic body, he said.

"Films are among the key entertainment avenues for residents in Chennai. But, most of the cinema theatres operate in commercial neighbourhoods with exorbitant ticket charges. Because of this, the poor and the middle class are unable to have entertainment," said Mr. Duraisamy.

According to official sources, at least five cinema theatres are likely to be constructed in the first phase in the city.

Abirami Ramanathan, President of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Federation, said that the federation welcomed the move.

"There is a need for theatres that price tickets at Rs. 10 - Rs. 20... but that can happen only if the government subsidises. The move will help kill piracy and bring back audience to the cinema halls," he said.

Sources in the civic body said, "We will not be running the theatres, but will give it to somebody to run them. The Corporation will, however, fix the tariff so that people are not fleeced," he said.

Other schemes include Amma Weekly Markets in 200 wards, Amma Women's Hostel, Amma Kudineer for residents, Amma Corporation Hostels and Amma Computer Training in the city.

If we don't get their response in three days, we will release all convicts in accordance with the rights granted under Indian Constitution," chief minister J Jayalalithaa informed the state assembly.The Congress members walked out of the House protesting against the state government's decision."Releasing the assassins would set a wrong precedence," Congress floor leader N R Rangarajan said. A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam on Tuesday commuted the death sentences of Perarivalan, Murugan and Santhan on the ground of a delay of nearly 11 years in deciding their mercy petitions. The state government has the right to release convicts who have completed 14 years in jail after considering their good conduct.

Madurai Bomb Defused

Police recovered an object suspected to be a pipe bomb from the campus of a retail unit in Uthangudi, nearly a kilometre away from the campus of the Madurai bench of Madras high court on Tuesday evening. The large pipe, 1.5-feet long with a diameter of 12cm, had a wire about three feet long sticking out and weighed 3.75 kg. Had it "exploded" it would have caused damages within one km radius, said sources within the bomb detection and disposal squad.

However, Vijayendra S Bidari, who took over as superintendent of police, Madurai district, on Tuesday refused to confirm the suspicion that the object discovered is a pipe bomb. He said a comment on the nature of the object would have to wait till investigation was completed. "The object has been removed to a safe location, away from human habitation. Investigation is on. There is no confirmation yet on the kind of object. It is too early to say anything," he said.

Police personnel removed the object to a secluded place soon after it was found and sources in the police department said the "bomb" would be dismantled in a quarry in Puthuthamaraipatti on Wednesday.

Police said one of the employees of the shop discovered the suspicious object and informed them at around 4pm. The commercial area was crowded then. Bomb detection and disposal squad rushed to the spot and "confirmed" that it was a pipe bomb, a police source said. All employees were asked to leave the shop premises. Officials from various police departments including the dog squad inspected the area.

Police sources said the "pipe bomb" was very similar to the one recently recovered from the vicinity of the residence of Union minister V Narayanasamy in Puducherry.

Othakadai police is investigating the case as of now.

Pipe bombs of low intensity have been found at various places in Madurai in the past couple of years.

செல்வராகவன் பிரமாண்டமான பட்ஜெட்டில் இயக்கிய படம் இரண்டாம் உலகம். இந்த படம் ஆர்யா நடித்த படங்களின் வியாபாரங்களை விடவும் பன்மடங்கு அதிகமாக தயாரிக்கப்பட்டது, ஆனபோதும் எனக்கு இருக்கிற வியாபாரத்தை வைத்து போட்ட காசை விட பல கோடிகளை அதிகமாக சம்பாதித்து லாபக்கணக்கு காட்டுகிறேன் என்று சொடக் போட்டு படாதிபதியை பணத்தை வாரி இறைக்க வைத்தார் செல்வராகவன்.

தனது அடுத்த ஆட்டத்தில் யாருமே எதிர்பாராத அளவுக்கு நயன்தாராவின் மார்க்கெட் கிர்ரென எகிறி நிற்கிறது. காரணம் நயன்தாராவுடன் டூயட் பாடுவதில் இள-நடிகர்கள் ஆர்வம் காட்டுவதே இந்த வளர்ச்சிக்கு காரணம். அதோடு இல்லாமல், சிம்புவும் நயன்தாராவின் மார்க்கெட் மறுபடியும் எகிறி நிற்க காரணமாகி விட்டார்.

ஜெயம்ரவியும் தனது அண்ணன் தன்னை வைத்து இயக்கும் படத்திற்கு நயன்தாராவை ஒப்பந்தம் செய்யச்சொன்னார்.
இப்போது தனுசும் தனது புதிய படத்தில் நயன்தாராவுடன் டூயட் பாடுகிறார்.
இதனால், இப்போது படத்துக்குப்படம் நயன்தாராவின் படக்கூலி எகிறிக்கொண்டே செல்வதோடு, மறுபடியும் No-1 நடிகையாகியிருக்கிறார்.
